Bloodline Limit Name: Sei Kai (Life Release)
Clan: Kazehito Ichizoku
Stages & Abilities:
A variant of the elemental release forms like Ryuu Kai, Sei Kai, named because the clan was said to have been born from the wind (to release their chakra from their bodies in the form of the element that they have supposedly been born from is said to release their very life itself), also has a series of steps to complete in order for a clan member to achieve the bloodline limit’s full maturity. The 4 steps are the Seal Stage, the Breath Stage, the Dance Stage, and either the Illusion Stage (female clan members) or the Destruction Stage (male clan members).
The Seal Stage
The completion of the first stage requires the user to master the three basic Fuuton jutsu that each Kazehito clan member is expected to utilize to be recognized as a shinobi -- Fuuton: Daitoppa, Fuuton: Kazekiri; Fuuton: Reppushou. It is called the Seal Stage because the user is still reliant on using hand seals instead of releasing their wind element chakra naturally; most shinobi in their Genin level in the Kazehito clan are unable to fully control the bursts and it can have fatal side-effects. Most adept Genin-level members of the clan are able to complete this stage after intensive training under a Sei Kai user or a Fuuton specialist.
The Breath Stage
Different from Ryuu Kai’s Breath Stage, the Sei Kai’s Breath Stage is all about learning how to control the constant flow of chakra within their system. This process requires both mental and physical training; use of meditation to connect with the element around them and inside of them is helpful for when they go into their physical training, tai chi, to help move their chakra in slower rates.
It is here where Genin have the most trouble, and where most of the danger of mastering the bloodline limit lies (see side effects).
The Dance Stage
The purpose of the Dance Stage is to tap into the user’s ability to draw chakra out from his/her reserves, channel it through and release it from his/her body in small gusts of wind. It is the lengthiest and most demanding of the stages because of the special taijutsu style that is traditionally used for this bloodline limit, much like the Ryuu Kai users rely on Northern Shaolin martial arts.
Here, elements of the Ba Gua style of martial arts, and hints of Hsing Yi, are introduced to Sei Kai trainees to use instead of the usual taijutsu taught in other academies. They are used for their swift, evasive maneuvers that evoke both the intangibility and explosive power of the wind element. They are known for their constant circular movement, both in dancing and in battle, which makes it difficult for opponents to land blows or strikes. The key to mastering this difficult stage is flexibility, versatility, and finding and following the past of least resistance. It is notable for being almost entirely defensive, yet extremely dynamic as demonstrated by their capability to overwhelm their opponents with powerful attacks that could prove fatal.
Because they are always moving and maneuvering, it is also difficult to get a solid hold-on of their strategy. Many males of the clan employ the entire body with smooth coiling and uncoiling movements, utilizing lots of dynamic footwork and open-hand martial-arts techniques. A common technique practiced by the Kazehito clan is to maneuver behind the opponent and mimic their actions, preventing them from turning to face the clan member.
Because they are a wind element clan, their chakra runs freely throughout their body at a constant rate all the time, eliminating the need to go through intense rigorous training to create such a flow, unlike the Yasuhiro clan’s Ryuu Kai users. Sei Kai users have naturally large chakra reserves because their breathing helps to replenish their Fuuton chakra which, ironically, can cause a fatal side effect if the chakra is left alone to store inside their bodies.
The Illusion Stage
This stage is achieved only by members of the main branch family because they are the only ones who possess what is called “the eyes of Suzaku”. It is often confused for being dojutsu because this stage requires the user to possess red eyes, but red eyes are only a sign that the person is a member of the main branch family.
In the main branch family, there is a certain part of their body where their chakra likes to gather. In the women, it is their throat, where the vocal chords are. By concentrating their chakra on their vocal chords, the main branch users are able to cast genjutsu by talking directly into their opponent’s hippocampus, a part of the brain controlling emotions and short-term memory. The women like to cast genjutsu in layers, making it harder for their opponent to escape, and the higher-level (Jounin) shinobi can keep adding layers until their chakra reserves run out (but leaving them extremely vulnerable to their opponent).
Genjutsu casting is made possible because sounds depend on vibrations traveled through the air which they can manipulate easily. The lower the level the shinobi is, the fewer layers they can make to the illusion and the easier it is to break.
The Destruction Stage
This stage is achieved only by members of the main branch family because they are the only ones who possess what is called “the eyes of Suzaku”. It is often confused for being dojutsu because this stage requires the user to possess red eyes, but red eyes are only a sign that the person is a member of the main branch family.
In the main branch family, there is a certain part of their body where their chakra likes to gather. In the men, it is their legs. It is called the Destruction Stage because the males are able to project powerful gales and zephyrs using a different style of martial arts completely unrelated to their traditional form, capoeira, which relies heavily on the movement of their strong legs by executing fluid acrobatic play, feints, and extensive use of kicks, sweeps (with both arms and legs), and head butts.
Because of the drastic change in taijutsu style, and because of its offensive nature (something not like the nomadic Kazehito clan), it is difficult for clan members to master this stage. Some don’t even bother at all, not seeing the point of adding “ugly”-looking moves when their beautiful Ba Gua and Hsing Yi marital arts both defend and attack simultaneously.
SIDE EFFECTS
Common side effects include:
Chakra System Burnout (may be fatal) -- caused by intensive overuse and may cause death or severe crippling
minor chakra burns – a common injury amongst practicing Genin; received as a backlash when releasing a Fuuton attack too quickly or too strongly
crippling of limbs -- severity depends on how much chakra was burst out and where it was burst from. Commonly caused by Genin who attempt to draw upon their chakra at a premature age and release it without using hand seals to limit its power. Can actually lose the part of the body that the chakra was released through. The wind element can be uncontrollable when the user is inexperienced, and the slightest leak can burst capillaries or shatter bones. It takes months of training in the Breath Stage to truly be able to master this.
swelling of chakra pathways -- a common issue amongst those who do not use their chakra often; the constant movement of chakra in their system, if not controlled properly, can actually increase the rate it travels in and heat up, causing swelling and pain. Their chakra must be expelled several times, and in infants and children who are unable to do so, it is done for them by their parents.
