Bloodline Limit Name: Ryuu Kai (Dragon Release)
Clan: Yasuhiro Ichizoku
STAGES & ABILITIES
Although there are no ‘stages’ to the actual Ryuu Kai, fully mastering it requires the user to complete 6 levels. The purpose of doing so is to help the user gain complete control of his/her chakra system and be able draw their chakra out without the use of hand seals. The 6 levels are the Seal Stage, the First Meditation Stage, the Chakra Stage, the Breath Stage, ad the Second Meditation Stage, and the Flash Stage.
The Seal Stage
The completion of the first stage requires the user to master the three basic Katon jutsu every clan member must be able utilize to be accepted as a true shinobi -- Katon: Goukakyuu no Jutsu; Katon: Housenka no Jutsu; Katon: Ryuuka no Jutsu. It is called the Seal Stage because the user is still reliant on using hand seals instead of the natural fire breathing technique that the bloodline limit allows. Most adept Genin-level members of the clan were able to complete this stage.
The First Meditation Stage
The completion of the second stage was usually completed soon after the Seal Stage is mastered, while the user was still a Genin. It is considered the hardest step in all of the 6 levels, because this is the level where chakra control is mastered. A hand seal is required to begin meditation. The hand seal is responsible for initiating the flow of chakra through the system, thus making it easier for the trainee to focus on controlling and moving the flow of chakra through the system instead of wasting their mental energy on beginning the flow.
The key to mastering the First Meditation Stage is concentration, patience and a constant chakra flow throughout the system. Keeping their chakra moving through their bodies at a constant rate is a key point to mastering Ryuu Kai, because the chakra needs to be running in their system for their user to draw it out from any part of their body immediately.
Shinobi who train to reach this stage meditate for long periods with one of the Ryuu Kai masters in their clan. Many members of the clan are unable to truly control their chakra, and as a resort must quit their Ryuu Kai training lest they burn their chakra system (will be explained in Side Effects). and be permanently crippled as a shinobi.
The Chakra Stage
Perhaps deemed the easiest of the 6 stages, the Chakra Stage is simple to master after one completes the First Meditation Stage.
The purpose of the Chakra Stage is to tap into the user’s ability to draw chakra out from his/her reserves, channel it through and release it from his/her body in short jets of fire. It is usually done along with their Northern Shaolin Taijutsu style during battle, releasing a sudden burst or stream (depending on their level of chakra control) of fire from their fist or foot instead of launching punches or kicks as normal taijutsu fighters do. This stage is different from the Breath Stage because many still rely on hand seals to first initiate the constant running flow of chakra through their bodies instead of running it themselves.
The Breath Stage
The Breath Stage is shown to be a rite of passage in the clan from a normal shinobi, to a Ryuu Kai shinobi. This is the stage where the trainee has fully mastered the first half of Ryuu Kai, and is able to fully utilize their bloodline limit without the use of hand seals. It is called the Breath Stage, because their chakra leaves their body and enters their body as the breath would move in a body. The chakra is released from their body, and then draw back to another part elsewhere, demonstrating the mastery of chakra control and level of competence as a clan fighter.
This level is usually achieved during the Chuunin Stage, although a few number of Genin -- with the proper training, patience, and utmost determination -- can be able to master it.
Many members of the clan who practice to achieve Ryuu Kai are only able to master their bloodline limit up to this point. The next part of their bloodline limit, which relies on the Raiton Chakra that only the main branch members have, allows the user to utilize their Chakra not as fire, but as lightening instead. This is extremely rare and deemed nearly impossible to do. There have only been 3 members of the clan since their bloodline limit was discovered hundreds of years ago who have been able to reach this level.
The next two levels, The Second Meditation Stage and the Flash Stage, are levels needed to be completed in order for Ryuu Kai to be truly recognized and mastered.
The Second Meditation Stage
Similar to the First Meditation Stage, the 5th stage requires the trainee to go into deep meditation. The purpose of this training, however, is not to control the chakra, but to find the Raiton chakra that is only possessed by the main branch members. This is the hardest element to locate because their chakra is so full of the fire that they have used for so long. Finding the Raiton chakra first would be impossible because mastering the chakra system would be needed in order to search through one’s chakra thoroughly.
It is this chakra that distinguishes the main branch family from the branch family, the it is the same chakra that their summoning lizards look to detect for when they are summoned. Even though the summoner is unable to find their Raiton chakra, the lizards are able to sense it.
The Raiton chakra is actually why their clan is said to have been descendants of dragons. (In Asian myths, the dragon is the spirit of rain, storm, lightening and thunder, whereas in Western myths, they are fire-breathing, satanic creatures.)
The Flash Stage
The final stage consists of being able to utilize the lightening element just as well as the fire element in their bodies. As stated before, there were only 3 members who were able to complete all 6 levels since the bloodline limit was established hundreds of years ago. These 3 members are referred to as Ryuuhito, or as the Dragon Clan (Lit. Dragon People).
SIDE EFFECTS
Common side effects include the following:
Small chakra burns -- when small pathways of the chakra system is burned due to overuse; inadequate chakra control when it is released may burn the user’s skin; etc.
Chakra system burnout (can be fatal) -- the complete burnout of the chakra system due to intensive overuse; can be fatal if extreme, or can completely cripple the user.
Asthma (common amongst those already with poor respiratory systems) -- from inhaling the smoky residue from the fire.
Consistent coughing/wheezing -- see Asthma
Dry/Burnt Mouth Syndrome -- caused by excessive use of firebreathing
There is no change in apperance whatsoever during its (Ryuu Kai's) use.
EXTRA
Because Ryuu Kai users have complete control of their chakra system, some have been able to learn basic iryou ninjutsu (medical ninjutsu), and have been used to heal minor chakra burns during their training.
